For a moment, I felt like a kid again, falling in love with cinema all over — a level of excitement and joy I haven’t experienced in years. If I had to distill the experience into one sentence, it would be something like: “a film that fills you with pure fun and enjoyment.” And that’s what makes it so remarkable — a story that largely revolves around a desperate attempt to save humanity from extinction is told through an almost childlike perspective, like an adventure into the unknown. It’s full of humor and hope, yet it still manages to touch, with honesty and sensitivity, on deep and very real existential questions. That balance works beautifully. In my opinion, this film absolutely deserves an Oscar — especially Ryan Gosling, who delivers an outstanding performance.
